His impulses at Suez were surely complex. Eden was far from anti-American or indifferent to American concerns. He had resigned in 1938 partly because he thought his prime minister, Chamberlain, had treated Roosevelt shabbily. Yet he saw Nasser as a “Mussolini” and was plainly determined to avoid any charge of appeasement, even though the essential features of Munich and Suez were wholly different. Instead of saying that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it, George Santayana might have better said that those who misinterpret the past are condemned to bungle the present.

Sous-Commandant Marco Posté 10 août 2006 Signaler Posté 10 août 2006 J'ai une théorie encore plus simple qui veut que les mêmes erreurs se répètent d'une génération à l'autre, c'est à dire tous les 25 ans à peu près. Exemples: Première guerre mondiale - seconde guerre mondiale, Vietnam - Irak pour les Etats-Unis, Liban 1982 - Liban 2006 pour Israël, 10 mai 1981 - mai 2007 pour la France, etc…
