Miss Tourism Zim Winners to Receive Prizes On Thursday

WINNERS of Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2006 that was held last month will receive their prizes this Thursday at a venue yet to be announced.

Spokesperson for the main sponsors, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Anna Moyo, confirmed that the official presentation would take place this week.

"The models that won in different categories at Miss Tourism Zimbabwe that was held last month will receive their prizes on the 25th of January that is on Thursday," she said.

Models who are getting their prizes are Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Caroline Marufu whose winning package is $5 million courtesy of Zimsun and ZTA, Harare's first princess Mitchelle Makanza will receive $3 million while Vongai Mushowe from Mutare, who was crowned second princess, will get $2 million.

Shuvai Murumbi, who is Miss Universe Zimbabwe, and 20-year-old Muslin Nousenga from Mutare, who was made Miss Bikini Zimbabwe will both walk away with $1 million.

The above models will also receive air tickets from Air Zimbabwe to regional destinations of their choice.

In addition, the Zimbabwe International Travel Services will take the winners on an all expenses paid for tour of five Chinese provinces for a week.

The regional winners Vimbai Chihota from Masvingo, Thabisile Dube from Bulawayo, Grace Gondwe from Gweru, Sibongile Mhlanga from Bindura, Sharon Razzle from Kwekwe, Charlene Mutongi from Marondera, Thelma Musanhu from Mutare and Shuvai Murumbi from Harare are expected to receive $500 000 each and hampers.

Miss Internet Tatenda Chirinda and Mitchelle Makanza, who landed the Miss Personality title, will also receive prizes.

Meanwhile Marufu, who is a teacher by profession, has not started her duties as Miss Tourism Zimbabwe as she is still waiting to be released from her duties as a teacher.

"We sent a letter to the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture asking if she could be released for a year from her duties as a teacher. Once we get a positive reply she will be attached to ZTA and commence her duties," said Moyo.
