La Vérité Sur Les Entreprises Publique

Mme Irene Chigbue est directrice générale du Bureau des Entreprises Publiques. C'est donc sympa qu'elle déclare ceci:

"The bare facts are that our government spent in the region of N13 trillion in setting up and maintaining about 590 public enterprises between 1975 and 1998. Of those, 160 were in the business of selling goods or services. In other words, they were expecting to make a profit," she said.

"The profit turned out to be minuscule, about a half of one per cent. And all these government funds were tied up in businesses that supported just 420,000 employees of a population of 140 million. They had absorbed over half of the money that Nigeria earned from its huge oil sales in the early 1970s. And then they accounted for over half of the money that Nigeria owed as part of its international debt.

"But the real price we have paid for the poor performance of our state enterprises is not one measured in billions or trillions of wasted naira. The real price can only be measured in terms of the services that Nigerian citizens never received and the investments that never took place.

Ça n'arrive pas si souvent qu'un officiel parle clairement de la spoliation du plus grand nombre par un petit groupe.
