"I'm right and you're an idiot" Named Official Slogan of the InternetSince 1994, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has been enacting standards and best practices for the Internet. After nearly five years of development, the W3C announced today the new officially recognized slogan of the Internet, "I'm right and you're an idiot".

"We wanted to find a slogan that represented the true spirit of the Internet," said W3C spokesman Ian Jacobs. "The Internet allows for a free exchange of information and ideas. But even more often, it allows for flames, retorts, and insult laden tirades at the slightest sign of any disagreement. That is the essence of what we wanted to capture with this slogan."

It is W3C's hope that the new slogan will be able to successfully attract the six consumers worldwide who still are not actively using the Internet so that they too many join in the disagreement.

Work on the new slogan begin in late-2003 when it came to the attention of W3C that there was no official slogan for the Internet. Having already penned numerous website standards for the Internet and the unsuccessful screenplay "John Internet Saves Delaware", it seemed only natural that creating a slogan would be the next step. Total cost for the new slogan is estimated at $27.

"I'm right and you're an idiot" merchandise, including coffee cups, mouse pads, t-shirts, and posters will be available on the w3C website in the coming weeks. They are also working closely with large web presences such as Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft to place the slogan on their websites.
