EC Report on Scrapping Schemes

Last year on 16th February 2009, the Commission services organised a seminar on the topic "Best Practices on Scrapping Schemes". This was followed by the adoption on 25 February 2009 of a "Guidance on scrapping schemes for vehicles" document as part of the Communication from the Commission "Responding to the crisis in the European automotive industry" . The guidance paper gives practical assistance to Member States on how to design scrapping schemes for vehicles and explains the relevant Community legislation.

As a follow-up to these actions, the Commission services have launched a study "Assessment of the effectiveness of the scrapping schemes for vehicles" in order to assess the effectiveness of scrapping schemes for vehicles in terms of economic, environmental, and safety improvements. The study has now been finalised.
