Je venais de me réécouter Show no mercy quand la nouvelle fut annoncée. Voilà mes années de lycée qui en prennent un coup. Je me disais qu'au moins Slayer avait su conserver son personnel par rapport aux autres mastodontes des années 80. Curieusement j'ai toujours préféré les premiers Napalm Death à Reign in Blood, pourtant beaucoup plus sophistiqué avec ses dissonances et ses climats terribles.

le mix des premiers Slayer est pas top.Perso je trouve tous les albums excellents a 85% jusqu'au dernier.Il y a peu de groupes qui font ca.

Le mix du Napalm Death est pas top non plus, mais le son garage devait faire partie de l'ambiance.

De la même année 1989 (et du même tonneau de grindcore putride), le son de cet album nauséabond de Carcass est en revanche toujours une boucherie saignante inégalée en 2013 par le niveau de goritude. On dirait qu'il fût enregistré dans quelque morgue cryptique peuplée de charognards.

Tiens Fryer, je vais peut-être arriver à te prendre en défaut sur ton propre crédo avec cet excellent album de Doom dépressif black folk metal scandinave pour chasseur lapon alcoolique et neurasthénique. On pense à du GodspeedYou trempé dans une mélasse noirâtre.

Hum, pas le temps d'écouter tout l'album mais en parcourant ton lien et en écoutant quelques minutes je ne vois pas le doom. J'entends bien le post rock par contre. Ca me semble un peu répétitif comme souvent dans les morceaux que tu me proposes

Heavy metal degree is a 'waste of time' claim campaigners

 

A two-year degree in heavy metal music has been branded an "easy option" by education campaigners.

 

The foundation degree - believed to be the first of its kind in the world - is being offered by New College Nottingham (NCN).

The college said the degree is rigorous and is being offered in response to student demand.

However, the Campaign for Real Education said it was a waste of time and would "lack weight" with employers.

Liam Maloy, a lecturer in music performance at NCN, spent seven months developing the course.

'Academically rigorous'

Students will learn how to compose and perform heavy metal songs.

The course, which is due to start in September, will also include modules on the music business, the history of heavy metal and its role in films and video games.

In the students' second year, they will perform on tour at venues around the country.

"It's a degree, so it will be academically rigorous," said Mr Maloy.

"In the past, heavy metal has not been taken seriously and is seen as lacking academic credibility when compared with other genres such as jazz and classical music. But that's just a cultural construction."

Upon completion of the foundation degree, students can opt to continue their studies in music for a third year at the college and get a full degree awarded by Nottingham Trent University, which has accredited the course.

However, Chris McGovern, chairman of the Campaign for Real Education said: "There are too many degrees being offered that lack credibility in the marketplace.

"I suspect that may be the case with this course, unless you want to be a heavy metal star, in which case why would you need a degree in the subject?

"It might seem an attractive, easy option to some people. But you don't need to do a degree in heavy metal. It's a waste of time."

Roadrunner Records has announced the eagerly anticipated new album from the legendary Dream Theater. “DREAM THEATER” – the first self-titled collection in the GRAMMY®-nominated band’s nearly three decade career – arrives at last on September 24th.

“DREAM THEATER” was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with founding guitarist John Petrucci producing and studio luminary Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush) engineering and mixing. The album marks a brilliant new chapter for the always adventurous band, their first to have been written and recorded with drummer Mike Mangini wholly integrated into the creative process from the start.
