Mission Statement: OUR America Initiative seeks to broaden the parameters of the public policy debate of current topics in the national arena. We look to enlighten the population about civil liberties, free enterprise, limited government, and traditional American values. It is our aim to increase the amount of discussion and involvement regarding all-important issues.

In 1994, Johnson was elected Governor of New Mexico despite having little experience in politics. He defeated the incumbent Democratic Governor Bruce King in the general election as well as a former Republican Governor in the primary election.

In 1998, Johnson was re-elected as governor, defeating Democratic Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez by a 55% to 45% margin.

Visitez ce site, ça vaut le coup. Niveau programme, c'est un bon mix de libertarianisme et de conservatisme pragmatiques. Cette Initiative est un faux-nez pour ses ambitions présidentielles, voir ci-dessous :

Johnson was term limited and could not run for a third consecutive term as governor in 2002. In the 2008 election campaign, Johnson endorsed Ron Paul for the Republican presidential nomination

Johnson has indicated interest in running for President of the United States in the 2012 election.

In the November 18, 2008 edition of The Western Standard, author and political pundit Marc Emery published an article entitled "Gary Johnson for President 2012," in which he posited that Johnson could win the support of libertarian standard-bearer Rep. Ron Paul if Johnson chose to embark on a presidential campaign in 2012.

In an October 26, 2009 interview with the Santa Fe New Mexican's Steve Terrell, Johnson announced his decision to form a advocacy committee called Our America Initiative to help him raise funds and promote small government ideas. The move prompted speculation among media pundits and Johnson's supporters that he may be laying the groundwork for a 2012 presidential run.

Former Republican Gov. Gary Johnson was the top elected official in New Mexico from 1994 through 2002. He took office after beating a primary opponent backed by the Republican party and won election twice in a state that has two-to-one Democratic advantage in registration.

Born in 1953 and a one-time competitive skiier, Johnson was not your typical governor. Instead, he governed as fiscally responsible and socially tolerant. He didn't raise taxes at all during his time in office and pushed through an aggressive privatization agenda that reduced costs while improving services. He vetoed 750 bills and trimmed the state workforace by 1,000 positions at the same time. He was also the highest-level elected politician and one of the most vocal proponent of drug legalization during his tenure.
