Since Donald Trump, the billionaire real estate magnate, announced his bid for the 2016 presidential election, he has shaken the foundation of the traditional political establishment to its absolute core. No longer are we talking about an inevitable Bush V. Clinton standoff, as their poll numbers reflect a growing sentiment of anger and apathy towards the longstanding cliché of the American politician. The polls are now dominated by people who have not been groomed by the political machine.  And, despite a contentious and controversial first debate, the largest victory for Donald Trump was the utter annihilation of Rand Paul. 

Before the debate, Bill O’Reilly made an interesting prediction; he stated the candidates would tactfully ignore Donald Trump, as it would not be advantageous to temper The Donald’s wrath.  However, he felt that the only candidate willing to attack Trump, right off the bat, would be Rand Paul. O’Reilly assessment was correct and the debate proved to be low point for Paul’s campaign. After Trump rejected the Republican Party pledge, Paul immediately went on the offensive, “This is what is wrong!” Paul emphatically declared.  “He buys and sells politicians of all stripes…he’s already hedging his bet on the Clintons because he’s so used to buying politicians.” Donald Trump immediately fired back, “Well I’ve given him [Paul] plenty of money.” The camera panned to Paul and he seemed completely demoralized, focusing his eyes on the paper in front him, seemingly afraid to take the fight any further.

The problem with Paul’s strategy is that no matter how much he tries to differentiate himself from the cookie cutter politician, the fact remains that he is the son of a career politician, and currently sits in the Senate. Congress’ approval ratings have been at a record low, and Trump’s meteoric rise reflects a sense of deep apathy among the American electorate.  Paul initially tried to take the same position as Trump and then subsequently attacked him for essentially stepping on his turf. This backfired substantially.  “It just missed the mark” One strategist stated, “He didn’t give off a good vibe doing it.”

Donald Trump, whose poll numbers continue to rise, has been relentlessly attacking Paul since the debate. Trump has been making it clear that Paul is the same smiling backstabber that Americans have come to loath, exploiting the fact that he is running for senate while simultaneously running for the presidency. “I feel sorry for the great people of Kentucky who are being used as a back up to Senator Paul’s hopeless attempt to become President of the United States — weak on the military, Israel, the Vets and many other issues. Senator Paul has no chance of winning the nomination and the people of Kentucky should not allow him the privilege of remaining their Senator,” Trump said.  Paul’s poll numbers have shrunk from 10% in April, to 2% since the debate.  The evidence is there to support the fact that Donald Trump had a major hand in the stunning downfall of Rand Paul, who only months prior was poised to revolutionize the Republican Party.

Je confirme, chez les démocrates on se flingue en coulisse, chez les républicains c'est souvent en direct, il faut dire que le traumatisme de 1972 est encore très présent dans l'esprit des démocrates (orateurs hués à la convention, Wallace en fauteuil roulant suite à la tentative d'assassinat qu'il avait subi, représentants démocrates se répandant dans la presse pour critiquer leur candidat).

Ceci étant, il a aussi détruit les campagnes d'absolument tous ses rivaux (sauf Ben Carson, qui réussit l'exploit d'apparaitre comme encore plus dingue que lui). Merde, il a même détruit Jeb Bush qui se traîne avec un score à un chiffre, alors qu'il a derrière lui une machine politique rodée sur deux générations !

Du coup par curiosité j'ai été voir le site de Trump. Son programme sur le plan des taxes est quand même totalement libéral (pas au sens américain du terme), c'est pas si mal. Au fond, c'est juste dommage qu'il psychote sur l'immigration.

Il a un onglet "Je baisse les impôts au plus bas niveau depuis la WW2" mais pas d'onglet "dépense". Même le mur qu'il veut faire à la frontière avec le Mexique est censé être payé par le Mexique.

C'est clair qu'il y a pas grand chose d'autre dans son programme, mais de manière générale il y a tout de même une direction vers la diminution de la taille économique de l'Etat.
